Dr Amit Kulkarni is a trusted name in the field of Neurology, Stroke and Neurosonology. He has completed his MBBS training at KIMS, Hubli. He then completed his MD in Internal Medicine from MS Ramaiah Medical College and Hospital, Bangalore in 2008. He went on to complete his DM super-speciality training in Neurology from the prestigious Maulana Azad Medical College and G B Pant hospital in 2013. G B Pant hospital, which is now GIPMER is one of the busiest tertiary care referral centres for Neurology in North India. Here, he gained expertise in the management of stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease & movement disorders, headache, multiple sclerosis and demyelinating and other complex neurological conditions.

He served as a Consultant in Neurology at Apollo BGS hospital, Mysore. Following his brief stint as Consultant Neurology at BGS Global hospitals, Bangalore, he was selected for the prestigious fellowship in Stroke and Neurosonology in 2015 under the guidance of the renowned Prof Vijay Sharma at National University Hospital in Singapore. Here, he acquired hands-on training and expertise in Carotid duplex and transcranial Doppler and its applications like vasomotor reactivity testing, bubble study, emboli monitoring and various aspects of cerebrovascular hemodynamics along with pre-op planning for procedures like endartarectomy, stenting, EC-IC bypass and other forms of revascularisation and their post-operative management. He passed the coveted American Society of Neuroimaging (ASN) comprehensive certification in Carotid duplex, transcranial doppler and cerebrovascular hemodynamics in June 2015. He completed his clinical fellowship in November 2015 and returned back to India.

Since then, he is leading the department of Neurology at BGS Gleneagles Global hospital at Bangalore. He is amongst a handful of practising Neurologists in India who perform Carotid duplex and transcranial Doppler and also trains doctors and technicians in this field. He has conducted live workshops in Neurosonology, both in India and overseas, prominent of which was Asia Pacific Stroke Conference at Kuala Lumpur in 2015. He has more than 15 research publications and several book chapters. He has been a national faculty and invited speaker in national Neurosonology conferences and workshops.

Apart from his above interests, he is passionate about treating the whole spectrum of Neurology outpatients and inpatients. He also plans to cater to international patients requiring neurological advice and guidance, hence contributing to international medical tourism. He dedicates his career and success to the hard work of his mother Mrs Arati Kulkarni and his father late Shri Ashok Kulkarni.
